Dental Implant-Supported Dentures - Take Control over Your Smile
Are you one of the millions of Americans who rely on removable dentures to get through the day? Whether you have partial or full dentures, or even a custom-crafted set of cosmetic dentures made from the finest dental materials, chances are that you have experienced some frustration as a denture wearer. Even the best-fitting dentures can slip at inopportune times or create difficulties with speaking or eating. Thankfully, through implant dentistry, denture wearers have a way to regain the control over eating, speaking, smiling, and laughing that they had with their natural teeth.
Dental implants can be used to secure a porcelain crown, a dental bridge, or a full set of dentures. Implant-supported dentures are currently the most stable, secure, and natural-looking method of replacing an entire mouth’s worth of missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium posts that, when placed in the jawbone, act as artificial tooth roots. These titanium posts actually integrate with the jaw, essentially becoming part of a person’s anatomy. The custom-crafted dentures are attached to these implants below the gum line to ensure a completely natural appearance. Implant-supported dentures do not slide or slip, and they cannot be removed by hand. They are truly the next-best thing to having a mouth full of strong, healthy, natural teeth.
Not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants. Patients need to have sufficient bone mass to support the titanium posts; however, those patients who lack adequate bone may be able to undergo a bone grafting procedure. Patients should also be in good enough health to undergo surgery, as the implantation procedure is an invasive surgical procedure.
If you are missing most or all of your natural teeth, you may be an ideal candidate for implant-supported dentures. Contact cosmetic dentist Fred Eck at his cosmetic dentistry practice in Bonita Springs for further information about implant dentistry.
